Yard wise demonstration garden

Welcome to the Yard Wise Demonstration Garden

Coming soon is a brand new iteration of this garden which is a collaboration between Keep Pearland Beautiful and the City of Pearland. Adjacent to the Stella Roberts Recycling Center, this is a demonstration garden of native and adaptive plants. Created in 2007 with a Waste Management Think Green Grant and volunteers from the community, the Garden serves as an example of community greening utilizing easy-care landscapes, while conserving and protecting natural resources and the environment. For almost twenty years of the Yardwise Demostration Garden, we have had hundreds of volunteers maintain its pathway and enjoy its beauty. From several Garden work days, It takes alot of work to make sure the path is free from weeds. We have had a crushed glass trail which we got the glass from local bars and crushed them at our recycling center. While we have enjoyed the look that the glass we will be updating this to a new material. The garden has served as a great spot for creative Eagle Scout projects and Girl Scout Gold Awards. These projects include bee boxes, a wooden compost bin, and wonderfuly crafted benches and tables. We also have had our wonderful volunteer Laura Ellis who has maintained a circle of blue bonnets for a couple of years. She does this bluebonnet pod process all year round just to have these beautiful flowers each Spring. This is also a good Spring photo op to enjoy when the garden is back open.
This green space has also served as a wonderful shaded seating area for all walkers, runners, and bird watchers. We have a few bird feeders in the garden from Wild Birds Unlimited which provides the garden with beautiful birds that visit the garden. As the surrounding trail is one of the mid points of bird migration right in our back yard. The birds range from Bald Eagles, Roseate Spoonbills, a variety of Egrets, Herons, White Ibis, Ducks, Doves, Black Vulture, Purple Martin, Hawks, and many more. This area will continue to serve as a great bird watching spot. The current plans include adding even more Native plants to this area.
