PREPARE FOR YOUR VISIT

Please click to review our Pre-Arrival and Arrival FAQ’s. A quick review of these answers will help ensure that your visit is quick, painless, and impactful. We aim to provide stellar service but do ask that you do your part to make our workplace safe and efficient for both you and us!

Do I need an appointment?
For general recycling, no appointment is necessary. For hazardous waste and chemicals, however, an appoint is required. Click HERE to schedule an appointment to bring us hazardous waste or chemicals. If you’re unsure what qualifies as hazardous waste, scroll down to “Hazardous Materials & Chemicals” under the “Items We Accept” section. You may also use our appointment screening tool to quickly determine if you need an appointment.

What items can I bring?
We accept all kinds of items! Simply keep scrolling and you’ll see the next section entitled “Items We Accept.” You can click on any of the categories there for more information. If you don’t see a category that you think fits your item, please give us a call before visiting our facility. Our number is (281) 489-2795.

Do I have to sort my recyclables?
Yes, we do require items to be sorted before you arrive. Our facility is operated by an environmental nonprofit organization with limited staff. Please review the details below under the “Items We Accept” section to see how each category should be pre-sorted. Minor oversights are fine – we’re more than happy to help teach you how to become a sorting rock star – but please make an effort to sort your materials as well as possible ahead of your visit.

Where do I put my recyclables in my vehicle?
This is a very important question because our policies require that all guests remain in their vehicle at all times while in the operational zone of our facility. Place your recyclables in an area of your vehicle that is easily accessible to our attendants upon your arrival without the need for you to exit your vehicle. If you have a locking tail gate or lift gate, ensure that it is unlocked before you pull into the unloading area. You will have an opportunity to communicate with your attendant prior to them unloading your items in case you need to deliver special instructions.

Do I need to pay anything?
For most items, there is no charge to recycle at our facility. For some items such as hazardous waste or TVs, a fee may be assessed based on your place of residency. There is more information in the next section, “Items We Accept,” about each item that we accept including any associated costs that you might incur.

PLASTIC BAG POLICY
We ask our guests to please deliver their recyclables in cardboard boxes, plastic bins, reusable totes, or KPB’s reusable mesh recycling bags. If you insist on using plastic bags to transport your items, the bag must be clear or translucent so our attendants can see the contents inside before handling. Items in non-clear plastic bags will be refused. We strictly enforce this policy to ensure the safety of our employees and volunteers.

Additionally, plastic bags are now accepted for recycling but must be separated from all other items.

Where do I go?
When you first arrive, please enter through the gate on the right of the facility. Most visitors will then turn left immediately inside the gate and continue through the bay doors and into the drive-thru area. For large appliances and projector televisions, however, please bypass the drive-thru area and proceed to the rear of the facility to drop off your large items. Click HERE to view a photo showing where to drop off large items.

How do I unload my items?
Once you arrive, please remain in your vehicle until one of our attendants makes contact with you and instructs you where to proceed for unloading. After parking, please lower your window, turn off your engine, unlock your vehicle, and let your attendant(s) know where your items are. Please remain in your vehicle at all times. Our attendants will unload your items for you.

Can I exit my vehicle?
No. Please do not exit your vehicle. A recycling center is a potentially dangerous place and we want you to remain safe at all times. Remaining in your vehicle is the best way to ensure your safety and the safety of our employees.

Recycled glass is crushed on-site and turned into two aggregate grades: Fine (Sand-Like) and Coarse (Gravel-Like). KPB provides crushed glass at a very low-cost to encourage use in art projects, construction, flood-mitigation, and many more creative and useful purposes. The glass is tumbled in a way that bevels the edges so neither the fine nor the coarse aggregate is likely to cause cuts. Still, however, gloves and eye protection are highly recommended when working with or handling crushed glass – especially if it is your first time.

Fee Schedule:

  • 50lb Sandbags (Self-Fill): $5.00/ea
  • 50lb Sandbags (Pre-Fill): $10.00/ea
  • Bulk Aggregate: $0.08/lb

For self-filling, please click HERE to watch a video on how to use our gravity-fed bagging machine.
For bulk-filling, your vehicle must be large enough to receive aggregate from an elevated hopper via forklift. You are responsible for ensuring that your vehicle is rated to carry the weight you request. The bed of your truck or trailer WILL get scratched by crushed glass so a bed liner is highly recommended.

Certified hard drive destruction is completed through a partnership with our e-waste processor. Your drive(s) will be tracked from the time of drop off until delivery to our e-waste processor to ensure that your data is not compromised along the way. Upon drop off, KPB employees will drill your chip and/or bend your plates to destroy the drive but a certificate will not be issued until our e-waste processor tests the drive and confirms that no data can be extracted. It takes approximately 3-5 weeks to receive your certificate.

Fee Schedule:

  • SATA: $25/ea
  • SSD & NVMe: $35/ea
